Purchasing Manager

Up to £45,000 depending on experience

My client, based in Wakefield, is looking for a strategic Purchasing Manager to join their team.You will be responsible for managing the purchasing function for my client, overseeing the supply chain management and procurement on a company wide scale.You will set the purchasing strategy and be responsible for ensuring cost efficiencies which impact positively on the profitability of the company. You will manage the department which includes 4 members of the team, setting performance goals, KPIs and objectives for the department.

Duties include:

Service Delivery

  • To forecast levels of demand for services and products to meet the business needs and keeping a constant check on stock levels
  • To conduct research to ascertain the best products and suppliers in terms of best value, reliability, quality and delivery schedules
  • To identify potential suppliers, visiting existing suppliers and building and maintaining good relationships with them
  • To negotiate and agree contracts and monitor their progress, checking the quality of service provided
  • To review purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy
  • To oversee the preparation and processing of requisitions and purchase orders for supplies and equipment
  • To control the purchasing department budget
  • To direct and coordinate activities of personnel engaged in buying, selling and distributing materials, equipment, machinery and supplies
  • To review and agree department and individual business objectives, aligning these with the business objectives and agree team and individual key performance indicators

Operations

To develop and implement purchasing and contract management instructions, policies, and procedures

To participate in the development of specifications for equipment, products or substitute materials

  • To produce reports and statistics
  • To evaluate bids and make recommendations based on commercial and technical factors
  • To develop the purchasing department vision, values and objectives aligning these with the company objectives and agreeing KPI’s

People Management

To support & develop the purchasing team, providing coaching, mentoring, feedback and support to team leaders and supervisors

To monitor performance and progress of team leaders/supervisors and their respective teams, identifying any skills gaps

To ensure regular communication with the team to ensure the smooth operation of the whole department

To manage the team performance, conduct team leader/supervisor annual performance reviews and support team leaders/supervisors to conduct their team annual performance reviews

Quality Management

  • To work in accordance with health and safety regulations, and also ensuring the health and safety of all staff.Reporting near misses and RIDDOR
  • To ensure process are implemented with the use of CAR’s

You will have:

  • Previous experience of working in the manufacturing sector
  • The ability to identify, manage and implement change.
  • The ability to challenge existing work practices, identify areas for improvement and implement new processes and plans.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate with both internal and external stakeholders

Excellent negotiating skills with the ability to negotiate best value for money and network with key stakeholders

Excellent numeracy and literacy skills with experience of analytical work would be an advantage

The ability to demonstrate effective time management, prioritise own tasks and manage own workload

Excellent team working skills with the ability to develop good positive working relations with all stakeholders

A strong understanding of purchasing with the ability to ensure the purchasing department has the levels of stock in place to support production and maintain an excellent level of customer service and delivery timescales

Excellent team management skills with the ability to motivate, coach, mentor the team and support the achievement of team objectives and KPI’s.
